The essentials in one minute

Appointments

One first appointment is enough, even with several diagnoses.

If in doubt, choose PAIVS/ME/CFS. Its questionnaire also covers related conditions such as MCAS, POTS or hypermobility.

What often occurs together is looked at together

POTS and dysautonomiaStand test before the appointment, assessed against the current consensus.[8]
Mast cell activationAssessed against strict criteria to avoid over- and underdiagnosis.[5]
HypermobilitySigns of hEDS or a hypermobility spectrum disorder are recorded.[9]

Unfortunately we cannot currently treat children under 10. More on this in the FAQ.

New

What PAIVS means

PAIVS stands for post-acute infection and vaccination syndromes: persistent symptoms that begin after an infection or a vaccination. Long Covid is the best-known example. Very similar illnesses also follow other infections, such as glandular fever (EBV) or influenza, and COVID-19 vaccination (Post-Vac). That is why our appointment types are now called PAIVS/ME/CFS and PAIVS Kids. Nothing changes for you, except that the name describes more precisely whom the physicians care for.[6]

As equals

What you can expect

Many patients have come a long way. Treatment is designed to cost you as little energy as possible.

Your account matters

The WHO classifies ME/CFS as a neurological disease (ICD G93.3). Every treatment starts with your story.

Energy-saving from the start

Questionnaires in stages on your phone. Appointments lying down. Relatives may speak for you or attend alone.

Honest about evidence

There is no causal treatment yet. You will learn what is well supported, what is a treatment trial, and what is still unknown.

Pacing, not training

Graded exercise is not recommended for ME/CFS.[1] The aim is to avoid crashes, not to push through them.

Together with your GP

Your medical report is written so that your GP can continue working with it.

Limits stated openly

A physical examination is not possible online. That is why we need your prior findings, and why this is not an urgent-care service.

Process

From booking to follow-up

  1. 1 Book an appointment Choose the appointment type and physician and book online. Nothing free? Join the waiting list.
  2. 2 Access to the MediPrime app After booking you receive access to the MediPrime app for questionnaires, findings and the video appointment.
  3. 3 Documents Fill in the questionnaires and tests about 4 weeks before, in stages. Upload prior findings.
  4. 4 Video appointment About 30 minutes. Breaks and lying down are possible at any time.
  5. 5 Medical report About 7 to 10 days after the appointment: detailed findings, treatment plan, prescriptions and referrals, digitally signed.
  6. 6 Follow-up About 8 weeks after starting treatment, with the same physician.
Costs

€300 per appointment, in two steps

Applies to appointments from 1 November 2026. Until then: €250.

Each invoice is issued by the physician who provided the service. The preliminary evaluation of the questionnaires and findings you submit is done by your treating physician or passed on to another physician on the platform, currently often the practice of Dr. Geiger or her deputy. The appointment itself always takes place with the physician you chose, who also invoices it. You pay the physician directly; the platform does not bill any medical services. You pay first and then submit the invoices to your health insurer. For people insured with an Austrian statutory insurer, the platform team can submit them for you on request. If you are insured outside Austria, please submit them yourself.

DepositDeposit · payment request shortly after booking from the evaluating physician; the evaluation starts once payment is received, the invoice follows afterwards
125 €
BalanceInvoice 2 · due once the medical report, prescriptions and referrals have been sent, about 7 to 10 days after the video appointment
175 €

We cannot tell you in advance whether or how much your insurer will reimburse. It depends on many factors, such as your insurer, the specialty and your previous claims. In our experience, private supplementary insurance has usually reimbursed; the terms of your policy apply. If you live abroad, travel or international health insurance sometimes covers costs; please ask them in advance. Rescheduling and cancelling

Rescheduling and cancelling

If you are worse, we reschedule. Free of charge.

A crash before the appointment is not unusual with these illnesses. That is why you can reschedule at any time, even several times. Anything already paid is kept.

  1. Before the evaluation Full refund As long as you have not submitted the questionnaires, you can cancel free of charge. Nothing is charged; anything already paid is refunded in full.
  2. After the evaluation has started Reschedule instead of losing Once you submit the questionnaires, the physician's preliminary evaluation begins. From then on the €125 is no longer refunded, but it remains valid for any later appointment for 12 months. Rescheduling is free and possible as often as needed.
  3. If your health worsens Pause as long as needed If your health worsens significantly, your appointment can be paused for up to 12 months. Just get in touch when you are able again. If the evaluation is then more than 6 months old, it is updated for €25.

Whether a cancellation fee is charged for cancellations less than 48 hours before the appointment is decided by your treating physician. If your physician has to cancel, you get a replacement appointment or your money back. You explicitly accept these terms before booking.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers

Do you treat Long Covid and post-COVID syndrome?

Yes. Long Covid and post-COVID syndrome are the focus of the platform, as is ME/CFS, which often develops from them. We group these conditions under PAIVS because similar symptoms also follow other infections or vaccinations. Book the PAIVS/ME/CFS appointment; for children and adolescents from age 10, PAIVS Kids.

What is the difference between Long Covid and post-COVID syndrome?

Long Covid refers to symptoms persisting from the 4th week after a COVID infection, such as exhaustion, concentration problems, breathlessness or a racing heart. Post-COVID syndrome is used when symptoms last longer than 12 weeks and cannot be explained otherwise. Everyone whose symptoms persist after COVID is welcome, however long they have lasted.

Do you also treat people with Post-Vac?

Yes. Persistent symptoms after a COVID-19 vaccination often look similar to Long Covid or ME/CFS and are assessed and treated just as carefully. Please book the PAIVS/ME/CFS appointment.

Who is the treatment for, and what must be checked beforehand?

For people aged 10 and over with Long Covid, Post-Vac, ME/CFS, MCAS, POTS or other dysautonomias. An in-person work-up is needed: by your GP and ideally by cardiology (e.g. echocardiography) and neurology. If these findings are not yet available at the appointment, we issue a referral. Dangerous causes in the heart or nervous system should be ruled out, because we cannot examine you physically online. Working together with your GP remains important during treatment.

Which appointment should I book?

Please book only one first appointment, even if you have several diagnoses (e.g. ME/CFS and MCAS). If in doubt, choose PAIVS/ME/CFS: its questionnaire is more detailed and covers related conditions. Please do not book first appointments with several physicians at the same time; it brings no benefit and takes a place from someone else. If you have already booked two, please cancel one and let us know briefly via the MediPrime app.

I cannot see any free appointments. Why?

Demand is much higher than the number of appointments. New appointments are usually released at the start of each month and are often taken quickly; cancellations free up individual slots in between. The best option is to join the waiting list: you will get an email as soon as new appointments are released.

What happens before the appointment?

After booking you receive access to the MediPrime app. About 4 weeks before the appointment you receive the medical history form and further questionnaires and tests there (e.g. a circulation test, grip strength). You can fill them in calmly and in stages on your phone; please return them no later than 2 weeks before the appointment. Upload prior findings in the app under “Documents/Uploads”; we cannot accept post. If a form cannot yet be completed in the app, print it, fill it in and upload a photo or scan. The physician's preliminary evaluation feeds directly into the appointment.

What technical equipment do I need?

The MediPrime app on a smartphone or tablet, or a current browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox), and a stable internet connection. For technical problems, MediPrime support can help: support@mediprime.eu.

Can relatives help during the appointment?

Yes. Relatives may join the video appointment and speak for you, for example if you do not have the energy for 30 minutes. If you cannot take part yourself, a trusted person can attend alone. So that we are allowed to share information with them, please give us their name and phone number.

I am severely affected or bedbound. Is that still possible?

Yes. The platform is designed precisely for severely affected people. All appointments are by video, and you can lie down. Length and pace follow what you can manage, and a trusted person can speak for you.

What do I receive after the appointment?

A detailed medical report with findings and a treatment plan, plus prescriptions and referrals if needed, digitally signed. Because each report is written individually, you receive it about 7 to 10 days after the appointment. At follow-up appointments you receive an updated treatment recommendation.

How often are appointments?

After the first appointment, please book a follow-up yourself, ideally about 8 weeks after starting treatment and with the same physician if possible. This allows treatment to be adjusted in a targeted way.

What if I get worse before the appointment?

Then we reschedule. This is free and possible several times. If you worsen significantly, the appointment can be paused for up to 12 months; anything already paid is kept. Just let us know via the MediPrime app.

What should I do if I crash between appointments?

A crash (post-exertional malaise, PEM) typically starts 12 to 48 hours after exertion and can last hours to days. It is unpleasant but usually not an emergency. The aim is to keep it as short as possible: reduce exertion immediately, including mental and emotional load (screens, reading, phone calls). Shield yourself from stimuli and rest lying down rather than sitting. Drink enough and, with POTS, keep to the salt intake agreed with your physician. Take as-needed medication according to your treatment plan. No training and no increase in activity until you have fully recovered. Note the trigger, onset, duration and symptoms; this helps a lot at the next appointment. Call the emergency number 112 or go to an emergency department immediately for chest pain, acute shortness of breath, new paralysis, speech or vision problems, loss of consciousness or a severe allergic reaction. A crash does not automatically explain new or unusual symptoms; have them checked.

Can I send questions between appointments?

We are happy to answer organisational questions in writing via the MediPrime app. Medical questions need a conversation so that we can ask follow-up questions and assess how you are now; that is why we do not answer longer medical messages in writing. Feel free to upload your questions for the next appointment. If it cannot wait, contact your local GP or specialist (in Austria also the health hotline 1450), or 112 in an emergency.

Can I call my physician's practice?

Please not for matters concerning the Online Klinik. The physicians' practices are separate from the Online Klinik, organisationally and for data protection. The staff there have no access to your records and cannot look anything up or pass anything on. Please write to us via the MediPrime app, or before booking by email to info@pais-care.online. We usually answer urgent medical matters within two working days; organisational matters can take one to two weeks. If you feel acutely unwell, contact your local health services, in an emergency 112.

Can the medical report be changed?

We correct our own errors, such as incorrectly transferred values or dates, free of charge. We do not reword the medical assessment on request. If you need a report for a specific purpose, such as a pension insurer, we write it as a separate document charged by effort; we tell you the cost in advance.

What do prescriptions and certificates between appointments cost?

Each physician sets this and tells you the price in advance. In Dr. Geiger's practice: prescription or referral €15, short certificate or signature €40, longer reports by effort.

Do you treat children and adolescents?

Yes, from age 10, in a separate appointment type (PAIVS Kids) with age-appropriate questionnaires. A parent with custody registers the child, and a parent attends the appointment.

My child is under 10. Where can we go?

There are specialised services for younger children. Paediatric Long Covid outpatient clinics in Austria: Vienna, Klinik Ottakring (Dr. Maria Rothensteiner, Dr. Florian Götzinger); Graz, University Clinic for Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (Assoc. Prof. PD Dr. Volker Strenger); Tyrol, Dr. Anna Zschocke, specialist in paediatrics. Paediatric rehabilitation with pacing: kokon Rohrbach-Berg (Upper Austria), kokon Bad Erlach (Lower Austria), Wiesing (Tyrol). Support for families is offered by, among others, the Austrian Society for ME/CFS (mecfs.at) and Long Covid Austria. Outside Austria, please ask your paediatrician.

Do you treat people from Germany or other EU countries?

Yes. Prescriptions and referrals are digitally signed and are as valid as hand-signed ones. We cannot judge in advance whether or how much your insurance will reimburse; please ask them beforehand.

In which languages are appointments held?

In German, and with most physicians also in English. Dr. Aburaia also offers Arabic, Dr. Pacejkova Czech. The languages are listed for each physician. Medical reports are available in German or English.

Why can't I get a treatment recommendation in advance?

A sound recommendation requires your medical history, findings and a consultation. Without them it would be neither medically justifiable nor legally permitted.

Can I choose or change my physician?

Yes. You choose when booking. All physicians work to the same evidence-based standards. First and follow-up appointments should be with the same physician where possible. If it does not work out, you can change: let us know in the MediPrime app and then book with the physician you prefer.
